21

All I can think of is all the things I haven't done and now I'm twenty one and can never go back and do them before today. Well I am in England. That's a big thing I guess.
Anyhow it's been a good day and a half (I started saying it was my birthday at 3pm on Sunday afternoon because that was midnight is Aussie time, and my church friends went along with it which was cool). It goes without saying that I wish I could have spent it with family. Well I did over Skype, that's something. My host family took me out to dinner which was absolutely lovely and hours later I am still so sickly full. Maybe I'm still full from last night as well. Lots of brisk walks this week... They'll evolve into proper jogs one day I'm sure.

Seriously stuffed and can't think of much else to say except thank you to everybody for the birthday wishes. They worked! Also I miss gum trees.

[cliché song lyric]

Well one perk of having your birthday overseas is that you get to open your cards & presents early...

...and I just opened the parcel from my family. When I pulled put the big card with my favourite elephant wrapping paper and messages from so many friends back home I just cried and cried. I miss everybody so much. Thanks for your well wishes! Even just seeing familiar handwriting is nice. I loved the card - if I liked the love languages idea, mine would be cards with warm fuzzies from fam&friends and pretty elephants so I'm thrilled. The presents were great too of course!

One big thing I'm learning is that it is such an invaluable thing to have people who know you well and still love you - and when they're far away it's haaard. But it's OK. I've reached the stage where if (when) I were to go back I would definitely miss this part of the world: the people in it. Little Miss sometimes asks who her next carer will be, and yesterday she added "it'll be sad when you go." It will be!! On Monday I hadn't seen her for a week and about every half an hour (not kidding) she would say "Jess," "Yes?" "I love you."

Can you believe it?

I turn 21 in one month! I thought twice about publishing my birthdate on the world wide web, but really I thought about it three times because I did anyway. So who is coming to my party?
